Here is what is new in the Sioux Falls area this week: a first-in-town Tropical Smoothie Cafe is on the way to the east side, Over Easy is now serving breakfast and brunch at Dawley Farm Village, two more restaurants are still coming to the south and southwest, the retail lineup at the new Foss Fields development keeps growing, and there is a full slate of events to enjoy this weekend. If you are buying, selling, or relocating here, these are the stories that show where the city is investing. I'm Jennifer Krosch, a Realtor with eXp Realty, and I keep this local beat because real estate is really about what is coming next.

About this article

Details on specific projects, businesses, and dates come from public reporting by SiouxFalls.Business, KELOLAND, Dakota News Now, the Argus Leader, and Experience Sioux Falls, current as of this writing. I have only included details I could confirm in today's sources; if a date or figure is not here, it has not been publicly announced yet.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is coming to east Sioux Falls

The freshest news on the list is Tropical Smoothie Cafe, which announced in September 2026 that it is bringing its first South Dakota location to Sioux Falls. The franchise is being opened by Angie Yahne of Watertown and Ann Park of Brookings, and it is expected to land at 4417 E. 57th St. on the east side in late November 2026. The chain is known for smoothies, wraps, sandwiches, and bowls, and it is the kind of quick, reliable lunch-and-smoothie stop that families and commuters on the east side have been asking for. For anyone touring the newer neighborhoods off East 57th, it is a practical sign that the corridor is filling in with everyday amenities.

Over Easy is now open at Dawley Farm Village

If you have not tried it yet, Over Easy is worth a visit. The Arizona-based breakfast and brunch chain opened its first location outside Arizona at Dawley Farm Village, 5722 E. 18th St., with a grand opening on Saturday, June 6, 2026. It was brought in by The Attic Restaurant Group with operating partner Cade Terveer, and it serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The menu leans on classic breakfast plates, pancakes, benedicts, and brunch cocktails. It has been a busy addition to that east-side retail corner, and two more Sioux Falls locations are already planned, which tells you the concept is landing well here.

Two more restaurants still on the way

Two announced restaurant projects are still in the pipeline, and both are worth watching. Santo Tequila, a new Mexican concept from restaurateur Reyes Aranda, who also runs La Plaza Fiesta, is set to fill the former restaurant space at 2310 S. Marion Rd. in southwest Sioux Falls. As of early October, no opening date had been publicly announced, so keep an eye on it if you live or tour homes in that part of town.

On the south side, Ocean Buffet is planned as a sushi, hibachi, Asian, and international buffet that will take over the former Chuck E. Cheese space at 2600 S. Louise Ave. Roughly $350,000 in building permits have been filed for the project, though an opening date had not been announced as of this writing. When a large, family-friendly buffet lands in a former anchor space, it is usually a good sign for the retail center around it.

Foss Fields keeps adding tenants

The new retail development at East 6th Street and Highway 100 in northeast Sioux Falls, called Foss Fields, continues to grow. It is anchored by Hobby Lobby, which will be the chain's second Sioux Falls store and is expected to open in fall 2027. Beyond Hobby Lobby and Sierra, which was announced as the first Sioux Falls Sierra store, the tenant list now includes Five Below, Petco, and Ross Dress for Less, each a second Sioux Falls location, plus a returning Baskin-Robbins. Construction was underway as of September 2026. For buyers looking at the northeast side and the growing neighborhoods along Veterans Parkway, this is a meaningful amenity story, because retail of this scale tends to follow rooftops, and it is arriving right as the housing there is filling in.

This weekend in Sioux Falls: October 9-11

On top of the openings, there is a full weekend of things to do. The national touring production of the musical WAITRESS, with music by Sara Bareilles, is at the Washington Pavilion's Mary W. Sommervold Hall from October 9 through 11, which is a strong pick for a date night or a night out with friends. If you are after something family-friendly and free, the Sioux Empire United Way is hosting Quack Open a Book, a community reading festival on Saturday, October 10, with free books, live entertainment, a mobile zoo, and character visits. For a dose of fall, the fall festival at Country Apple Orchard runs Friday, October 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. And if you like a good scare, the Jaycees Feargrounds haunted house, themed Once Upon a Scream, is open at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds on October 9 and 10, with a Kids Day on October 11.

What this means for buyers and sellers

Here is the realtor's take on all of this. New restaurants and retail follow rooftops, and every opening in Sioux Falls proper is evidence that demand is real and that the city keeps adding the everyday amenities people actually use. A first-in-town Tropical Smoothie Cafe, a busy breakfast spot at Dawley Farm, and a growing tenant list at Foss Fields all point to neighborhoods that are maturing and filling in.

When I work with relocating buyers, amenities are often the deciding factor between two similar homes, and this month's list gives them real answers. If you are selling near one of these new developments, the momentum is something you can genuinely point to in your marketing. And if you are buying, the honest advice is the same as always: buy the neighborhood you want to live in, and let the city's momentum work for you over time.

If you would like to talk about what any of these changes mean for your search or your home's value, I would love to walk it through with you.
